IT'S APPLE SEASON, AND THERE'S A NEW WAY TO GET SOME OF THE LOCAL BOUNTY
IT'S APPLE SEASON, AND THERE'S A NEW WAY TO GET SOME OF THE LOCAL BOUNTY Under the Tree Farm's fruit stand on Middaugh Road in Brooktondale has opened with fresh, local apples. What began in 2011 as a small 22 tree homestead orchard has become a passionate adventure in growing premium fruit and reclaiming abandoned farmland for Scott and Crystal Van Gaasbeck. They currently care for over 2,200 trees on 9 acres – over 60 varieties of apples, pears, peaches, cherries, plums, apricots, persimmons - plus blueberries and vegetables. Scott and Crystal are excited to share their passion for farming with their community, and have opened a self-serve farmstand on Middaugh Road in Brooktondale. Visit their farm stand every day...

Orchard Magic...
The fog this morning made an ethereal wall around the farm, time stood still on the precipice of fall, and we got wet feet. The hot sunny days seem to be bringing out the sugar and the fruit is exploding with flavor. Several varieties coming on at once. Today we picked Crimsoncrisp and Liberty, which have both been deep, deep red for a month but now have a sweetness to match. They really benefited from our fruiting wall system, with a narrow tree every apple was in the sun - who wants those sad green ones from deep in the tree anyway.
Despite a wet cold growing season these trees we grafted spring 2016 look set to start fruiting next year.
The farmstand is open and full of apples!
Come visit the farmstand on Middaugh Road. Currently we have Honeycrisp, Fortune, Crimsoncrisp, Gala, Sansa, and an heirloom mix - all for just $5.00 a half peck bag. It's fall - time to eat lots of apples!
