We use beautiful, thick, oiled 8 ounce black Steer Hide tanned by the Horween Company in Chicago.
Bag features solid brass hardware, a horse collar fastener closure, a hand made bronze plate branded with "Under the Tree", and our signature hand sewing. The closure is very easy to open and close- just lift up on the brass hook and the bag opens. 11 inches wide, 7 1/2 inches high, and 4 inches deep. Shoulder strap is 1" wide and is adjustable (buckle not pictured in these photos).
Leather is a natural product, and each piece we work with has a slightly different grain pattern. We carefully lay out our patterns to showcase the beauty of all parts of a hide, which results in bags that are truly one of a kind.
Our signature hand stitching is informed by our study of shoemaking. It involves hand punching each hole with a very sharp diamond point awl, then sewing with two needles at once, joining the pieces together seamlessly. As a result, the insides of our bags feature clean, crisp lines that are just as beautiful as the outsides. We take great joy in creating bags in which every stitch is intentional and every inch is thought out!
We strive to combine traditional craft and modern design to create bags that are timeless, functional, and will last a lifetime.
