Northern Spy grafted apple tree
Over the years we have grafted and grown thousands of trees for our own farm, and now we have a limited quantity available for you too! Ready to plant and begin bearing as early as next year with proper care. These trees are dwarf, early bearing, highly productive and require some support, either a stake, trellis, or espalier on a wall. The full dwarf trees can be trained to 8- 12 feet tall, and the semi-dwarf 10-15 feet. We have a few few larger two year trees and smaller one year trees. We plant our own trees at the smaller size, and they frequently top the 8 foot trellis the first season.
Northern Spy is a late multi-purpose heirloom variety no orchard should be without. Large, green/red blushed fruit ripens mid October. Prone to scab but worth it. Slow to come into bearing compared to some newer varieties. Spy is a larger, vigorous, upright growing tree that responds better to summer training than winter pruning for us, but again, it is worth it and it is one of our most requested varieties; our customers wait for them to make their applesauce and pies. Super single variety cider as well. Stores through mid winter.
If you purchase trees we will assume you will pick them up on Saturday at the Ithaca Farmers Market unless you request to pick them up at the farm. We are not set up to ship plants, sorry!
